Zab "Super" Judah's punches come so fast and
so sharp that sometimes he himself says he doesn't know
where they're going until they get there.
Judah, a native of Brooklyn, NY, cut a swath through the
junior welterweight division between 1998 and 2001, defeating
prominent names like Micky Ward, Junior Witter, Terron Millett
and Hector Quiroz while earning a 27-0 record and a shot
at undisputed champion Kostya Tszyu. In a fight that was
perhaps the most talked-about of 2001, Judah came off of
a strong first round to walk into a big right hand from
the Champion, many would say due to the young Judah's overconfidence
after his performance in the opening round. Judah was downed,
rose to his feet, and immediately lost his balance and fell
again, prompting referee Jay Nady to stop the action. Judah,
enraged, hurled his stool across the ring and threatened
Nady, which ultimately resulted in a six-month suspension
and a heavy fine levied by the Nevada Boxing Commission.
Judah returned less than a year later to decision both Omar
Weis and DeMarcus Corley before scoring an emphatic first
round KO of Jaime Rangel in December of 2003. With his controversial
and disturbing loss at the hands of Tszyu firmly in his
past, Judah looks to be the "man to beat" in 2004's
junior welterweight picture, and with the imminent retirement
of Kostya Tszyu, his only conqueror, Judah may well rise
to the top of this exciting and competitive division.
