This legendary Puerto Rican fighter with the
big punch won the Super Bantamweight title in 1977 and successfully
defended it an amazing 17 times!! ALL by Knockout !!!
Wilfredo Gomez is generally considered the
greatest fighter in the history of the division. In 1981
he moved up in weight to challenge the great Salvador Sanchez
for the featherweight title in a historic contest that has
been called "The Battle of The Little Giants"
in an heroic effort he was stopped in eight rounds. Many
boxing experts call this bout one of the greatest of all
time.
In an era that saw many great champion this
"Little Giant" made his mark as one of the greatest
ever in the lightweight divisions.
Nicknamed "Bazooka" for his big
punch it was never more evident than when he defeated a
game Lupor Pintor in Houston in 1982 which saw both men
fight it out toe to toe over a gruelling 14 rounds
