Muhammad Ali vs Jim Robinson
Venue: Miami Beach Convention Hall, Florida 7th February, 1961.
As Cassius Clay's professional
career began to blossom, it soon became apparent that he was
an exceptional athlete, even at this early stage. Ferdie Pacheco
was a Miami doctor who loved boxing and worked in the corner
of Angelo Dundee's boxers as a hobby. He beacame the doctor
of Cassius Clay.
'He was the most perfect physical
specimen I have ever seen,' Pacheco said. 'You just could
not improve on the guy.'
The Miami fight crowd were beginning
to notice the young Clay on the undercard, although they were
yet to take him to their hearts. Angelo Dundee was still matching
him carefully, trying to find opponents who could show him
something he had not yet seen. The match with Jim Robinson,
another worthy club fighter, only showed Clay how well his
confidence was coming along. No longer daunted by the professional
ring, Clay took Robinson from the first bell, hitting him
at will. The fight was over within two minutes.
